The Forefathers of Allama Iqbal had migrated from Kashmir to Sialkot in about 1752 AD Grandfather of Allama Iqbal purchased a single storey house in 1861 AD. at a cost of Rs. 150/-. In one small room adjoining to vestibule of this house Allama Iqbal was born on Friday the 9th November, 1877 AD. In 1885 two adjoining double storied houses were also purchased and annexed with this house. In 1910 elder brother of Allama Iqbal Shiekh Atta Muhammad re-built this house and converted it into three storied building. A Guest House was also situated in the building. At present the total area of this house is about 9 Marla. Shops that were towards road have been converted into reading room. Beautiful wood carving has been done at many places in this house. This Building was acquired by the Government of Pakistan in 1971 and handed over to the Archaeology Department to convert it into Library/ Museum. All the articles which are displayed here were gifted by the descendents of Allama Muhammad Iqbal after declaring it to a National Monument.
